In search of Bunny Morton

My name is Kate Eisen, I own a mid-century modern shop in Toronto.

About three or four years ago, my friend Duncan and I were in a Goodwill store in Oakville.

We were looking for mid-century things, I for my shop and Duncan to sell on ebay.  

While we were there I found a chalk drawing that I fell in love with instantly, it was of a fox.  

I bought it and brought it to the shop and hung it on the wall as I really was interested in it.  

Perhaps about three weeks later I went back to the Goodwill and found another drawing of a bird by the same artist, one signed Bunny Morton, the other Bunny M.   

Over the next few months people would come into the shop and comment on the pieces, how much, what are they, how great they were, etc., even my neighbour who owns a few galleries and is quite well versed in art asked me about them; who did them, were they for sale, etc. but I wasn’t selling them. I can’t tell you how attached I am to these two pieces.   

My friend Duncan used to own one of Toronto’s only folk art/outsider galleries  in the city. He is really a specialist in folk and outsider art, but is very well known in the art community.  

We both commented on the work for days and even months on how great the pieces were, speculating on who Bunny Morton was or is, was  Bunny Morton a man or a woman, old or young, the signature could be a child or a senior.

Since I’ve found these two pieces I’ve wondered why these pieces were at the Goodwill, perhaps Bunny Morton died or moved into a retirement home?

I’ve thought about asking for anyone to contact  me who can tell me anything about Bunny Morton.

So here I am writing in my quest to find out who Bunny Morton is or was...

As The Bunny Hops: Confessions of a Diaper Trainer

OK, maybe there's a bit more to it than playing with babies. What I actually do is visit infant and toddler classrooms in my region and work with the teachers to help increase the quality in their rooms. We work on how the room is set up, what materials they need, interactions with the children-all sorts of things. And one of the things I get a lot of questions about is changing diapers. On an almost daily basis I help teacher's change diapers the "right way". That means getting supplies out ahead of time, cleaning the table with the right solution, throwing away gloves with the dirty diaper before putting on the clean one. All sorts of fun steps the teachers have to learn to fall in line with standards. Here's my confession: I'm all thumbs when it comes to changing diapers. What is it they say? Those who can't teach? Well, that's my story. Don't get me wrong, I've changed a ton of diapers in my day but I'm really rusty. Give me a squirmy baby and the baby just might end up with their diaper on backwards. I'm also terrified of changing diapers on baby boys. I've heard all the stories. *Knock Wood* so far so good! But I will throw a diaper on a baby boy in two seconds to avoid an accident, and I probably forget half of the steps I teach along the way! I've changed diapers on the squirmer-the baby who wiggles all over the place. And of course there's the incher-the baby who manages to end up on the other side of the table. Most of the babies I've known have at one time or another been the streaker-the baby who will pull their diaper off at any given chance. I've managed to avoid the dreaded sprayer so far, but of course as I mentioned, that's my number one diaper fear. Huggies is trying to help all of us with diaper changing fear with their new slip on diapers. Just pull them on your squirmy baby and skip the the extra steps.
