Ford issues recall
Ford Motor Company is recalling a number of vehicles due to a faulty fuel tank strap.
The recall includes certain 1997 through 2003 model year Ford F-150, 2004 model year Ford F-150 Heritage, 1997 through 1999 model year F-250 less than 8,500 pounds gross vehicle weight training and 2002 and 2003 Lincoln Blackwater vehicles.
Prolonged exposure to road deicing chemicals may cause severe corrosion of the the fuel tank straps which secure the tank to the vehicle, according to the National Highway Safety Traffic Administration.

Ford has recalled 1.1 million F-150 trucks from model years 1997 to 2004, and F-250s from 1997 to 1999, plus 2002 and 2003 Lincoln Blackwood vehicles, because chemicals used to de-ice roads can corrode the fuel tank straps causing a fire hazard.
If the straps, which secure the tank to the truck, fail due to corrosion the fuel lines can separate from the tank, or the tank could drop, hitting the ground. Either scenario could lead to a fuel leak creating a fire hazard.
Vehicles affected by this recall are registered in the following states, which, due to cold weather may use de-icing chemicals on roads:

Ford and Lincoln dealers will replace straps with ones that have better corrosion protection, and if such straps are not yet available I cable can be used to secure the fuel tank and lines. Repairs in relation to the recall are free. Ford's safety notification is scheduled to begin Sept. 12.
