I bought these for my Jeep CJ7 I’m restoring. I got the driving lamp kit, which DOES NOT have the blue shields you see in the picture. I called Hella about it and they explained the blue shield only comes with the fog light model. I wanted the shield to avoid the bright spot oncoming drivers would see.

They are very good lights and have a somewhat odd shaped beam pattern that focuses a lot of light low in front of the car and spreads out to the sides as you go up, but still with a good distribution of light further out front. The pattern could be somewhat non-spec because I replaced the bulbs with 100W aftermarket bulbs which might not have the filament at the perfect focal distance. With that said, the beam cutoff is not particularly good, I expect a sharp cutoff for oncoming traffic. Some of the new free-form reflectors might benefit from the older style lens treatment (ridges) that can help with the cutoff and allow a longer throw without distracting oncoming drivers. No one has flashed me, I just like a horizontal cutoff.

They are small but very bright. I think they would be good for a vehicle with limited space for lights. On my Jeep they look somewhat out of proportion, so I’m getting some FF300′s (big ovals, fogs) and will eBay these micro FF’s. Nothing wrong with the lights, just the wrong proportion with the front of the vehicle. I like the beam pattern on the Hella 500′s (standard model) better (have some on my FJ40) and they are more like pencil beams than these. Still have to be careful aiming with those but they project light a longer distance and have a more controlled pattern so oncoming traffic is not bothered. I also like some of the European lights that have one beam long distance and the other spread out, though there aren’t many like that available here in the states.

Good lights, I’d buy them again for maybe the grille area of an SUV with a brush bar. Recommended, just not for my CJ7.
