The Dart: Couple celebrates wedding anniversary

NATCHEZ — Love brought Pierre and Doris Tenner together four years ago, and Saturday the celebration of that union unified a neighborhood on Hampton Court where The Dart landed.

The Tenners were out Saturday morning at their house on Hampton Court, which was decorated with balloons and flowers, preparing for a party that was expected to last deep into the night to celebrate their fourth wedding anniversary and Doris’s 45th birthday.

“I like to see people enjoying themselves,” Doris said about her party. “I’m just hoping they enjoy themselves.”

Doris said her family has always made a big deal out of family birthdays, and adding an anniversary party to it is just icing on her cake.

“I’m glad I finally made it to the fourth one,” she said.

Doris said a lot of her family would be at the party to celebrate with her including her sister, Stacy Smith, and daughter Kiare King. Among other family members likely to attend were Doris’ mother and siblings, she said.

Pierre said preparations for the party began months ago, when the couple started gathering up small items they would need.

“It just kind of builds up,” he said. “I’ve been cooking since (Friday) night.”

Pierre said he would spend the morning cooking to have enough ribs, chicken, pork chops and crab for the dozens of people he expects to come by the party.

“There ain’t no telling (how many people will come,” he said. “When they get to coming, they start coming.

“I don’t even want to start counting, we just can’t block the street.”

The party is nothing new for the couple, they have celebrated each of their anniversaries with the same party, they said.

“We’ve been doing it the last four years,” Pierre said. “I’m just hoping to have a good time like last year and the year before.”

Pierre said he hopes to continue the family tradition for years to come.

“(We will do it) until the day I die, or as long as I’m still married with her, and I’m not planning on going anywhere, so until the day I die,” he said.

happy birthday and anniversary.  may you enjoy many more, together.  a marriage can be very, very difficult to maintain.   remember the old saying that “a family that prays together, stays together”.  get you a copy of the old song called “GOD BLESS OUR LOVE” and put it on whenever you are feuding.  calm down and say to each other,” this, too, shall pass”, whatever it is, it WILL pass. i can tell from your voices that the four years “ain’t” been easy.  hang in there, perhaps Pierre will get one of those good-paying jobs that’s coming to town, you too, Doris.  somebody said, go over to the WIN office and put in your application.  sometimes lack of money causes relationships to sour, dry-up and wither, completely, away.
