Still on al-Mustapha's scud missiles

Each time I watch former CSO Hamza al-Mustapha on the television screen,I tend to equate him to an exceptionally gifted character in Hollywood celluloid. He towers above the likes of Baba Sala, a pioneering ace Yoruba comedian, who could thrill a melancholic to an incredible instant and prolonged state of ecstasy. Mustapha’s ability to raise the bar of theatrics is exceptional. He has a perfect understanding of his script all the time, ostensibly because of a prior flawless dress rehearsal. He combines choreography and rhythm in such a  way that any uncanny audience is held spellbound when the ex-CSO sneaks to the amphitheatre.

He is at present at the centre of one of such theatre of the absurd, exhibiting the folly of man in trance in a dark alley of  self-captivity. And, perhaps for the first time, his theatrics lacks all the ingredients of a good script, hence, the attendant  cacophony and illusion. So, his audience is cut between reality and the deep blue sea on his claim and counter-claims over his trial for unjust killings under military rule.

No doubt, Mustapha and General Jeremiah Useni, were arguably the most powerful under the fistic rule of late General Sani Abacha. Because of the special privilege they enjoyed, their words and actions were not subjected  to questions by other levels of authorities. To accomplish their egoistic dreams, the two men recruited a few civilian protégés, whose interests were disproportionate to the collective will of the majority. One of the civilian recruits became the generalissimo at the clearing house for all prospective aspirants to public offices under the unwieldy contraption called United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP) now defunct.

I recall that some political figures like late Dr. Chuba Okadigbo, Chief Don Etiebet, among others, were forced to dump their party for the visionless UNCP, as Abacha’s men intensified efforts on an unhidden agenda designed for the deceased to transmute to a civilian president. This is a mere snippet of the major things that transpired at the villa when the CSO held sway therein. I am sure most Nigerians will appreciate if Mustapha could be magnanimous again to derail for a moment to provide more lucid details on the gross abuse of the political process, gerrymandering and subterfuge then.  Those deceits were at a great cost to the Nigerian nation and its people, because so much public funds were illegally pumped into the charade called the Abacha political transition programme.
