Army tribute to fallen soldier Cpl Lee Brownson

The family of a County Durham soldier killed in Afghanistan have said a new building named in his honour is a "fitting tribute" to his bravery.

Cpl Lee Brownson, of Bishop Auckland, died while on foot patrol in Helmand province in January 2010.

An accommodation block at Catterick barracks was named after him, while a second was named after colleague Craig Brelsford from Nottinghamshire.

Cpl Brownson's father Gary said the the new accommodation was "like Butlins."

Cpl Brownson, of the 3rd Battalion The Rifles, was due to become a father for the third time when he died. His wife has since given birth to a son.

An inquest into his death heard he had volunteered to lead a night patrol, which was aimed at preventing the Taliban from planting improvised explosive devices, and reducing their ability to intimidate the local population.

He was posthumously awarded the Conspicuous Gallantry Cross.

Gen Sir Nick Parker, Commander in Chief of Land Forces, who attended the Catterick ceremony, said: "To be killed in action is an act of great honour on behalf of their mates, on behalf of their regiment and their country.

"These young men were not only killed in action they were killed doing extraordinary acts of valour."

The £16m buildings at the infantry training centre in North Yorkshire will be home to new army recruits.

North Yorkshire Hotels for Families and Couples — Visit Japan Now

Whilst this part of the country was always a favourite of couples looking for a romantic getaway, families are increasingly jumping on the bandwagon as it becomes more fashionable to holiday in the UK. This is especially true in recent months because of the weak pound meaning that few people are inclined to change their hard earned cash into Euros to spend on their holidays at the moment.

Because the weather in this beautiful, rural area of England can never be relied upon, North Yorkshire hotels are the right choice of accommodation for families and couples visiting the area. Only the brave or foolish are advised to try holidaying in a tent here outside of July or August.

Many North Yorkshire hotels offer luxurious spas and high quality dining, which makes them perfect for couples looking for romance. Indeed, such hotels are popular as wedding venues. Not all the hotels are extravagant and luxurious: there are also many quiet country hotels intended as a base for exploring the region. Nearby Harrogate and York are popular with shoppers looking for a timeless experience. York is also a very historical town, with dungeons, Viking museums and old city walls to enjoy.

North Yorkshire hotels are also popular with lovers of the outdoors. The North Yorkshire Moors are famed for their beautiful hiking trails. Many North Yorkshire hotels are able to offer more basic accommodation for those people looking for just a bed at night.

Of course, there are plenty of hotels which accommodate families. For family entertainment, the region offers theme parks, museums and zoos. York is especially popular with families keen to find educational daytrips for their children.

There are many North Yorkshire hotels available. It is a good idea to shop around to get the best deal. Most of the times families can find very reasonably priced getaways.
